developing good study habits
i mentioned on the previous post that i attended a parent conference offered in 'the big school' about helping your child develop good study habits. when i received that circular that there will be a talk about this, i was impressed. it was nice that the school offered talks and seminars to parents for free. my alma mater didn't have something like this, not that i'm aware of for that matter. and i can't recall my parents attending any kind of talk, not even a parent-teacher conference in my school growing up. and so i got excited that such talk was being offered so i signed up. i admit that the week before, i slightly regretted signing up for the seminar. it was scheduled at 9am on a saturday. my stay-in-bed-late day. but the husband convinced me and so i dragged myself out of bed and drove to the school. teacher hannah, the first speaker, is a grade 5-6 guidance councilor. she talked about what schools expect from these students. she said that grade 1 kids are expected to... Follow By Example
“Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.” - Psalm 119:18. Date: Wednesday, October 1, 2014 Today's Chapters: Matthew 1-3 Message Title: Follow By Example Hello My Friend, The Book of Matthew is the first book of the New Testament, the fortieth book of the Bible and it contains twenty-eight chapters. The author of the book is Matthew and it was written to all believers, it was directed to the Jews to whom Jesus was presented as the Messiah, the Son of David. The timeline for these events took place approximately between 4BC and 33AD. The purpose of the book was to present the ministry of Jesus, stressing His role as King of the Jws. What we are to learn from the book is the Gospel of Christ and that it is to be preached in all the world until He returns. “And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.” - Matthew 24:14. After all the centuries, and millenniums,... (more)

Dark of the Moon
Then and Now
I was watching a vid of the opening night of Fleetwood Mac's new tour and I started blubbering. This in itself is not a unique or extraordinary occurrence. If you're partial to astrology, I am a typical Cancerian through and through. If you're not, well then I guess I'm just a big crybaby. Anyway, I guess it just made it all so real. I've been a fan of theirs since I was around 11 or 12, having first heard them on Art Bell and those late night oldies infomercials. We didn't have a computer or Internet, and I was a lonely, nocturnal little girl. My love, and later, obsession, was wholly personal, sacred. Awake and alone at 3 in the morning wearing out my VHS tape of specials and documentaries that I recorded from TV, aching with every ounce of life force to BE Stevie. I never really desired to see them in concert until recently. Maybe I was afraid of my dreams not living up to the reality or hype. It meant too much to me, and I didn't want to share it with thousands of others. The... (more)

The Common Ills
Iraq snapshot
Iraq snapshot Tuesday, September 30, 2014. Chaos and violence continue, Barack redefines civilian casualties, Australia has concern about the legality of the war, and more. The violence never ends in Iraq. Yesterday, Margaret Griffis (Antiwar.com) counted at least 256 violent deaths for Monday. Qassim Abdul-Zahra and Sinan Salaheddin (AP) report that a "wave" of violence has left "at least 47 people" dead today. Violence hasn't stopped in Iraq. Many are starting to register that. At the Pentagon today, spokesperson Rear Adm Jack Kirby declared: We've been pretty honest about the fact that military action alone will not win this effort, but that shouldn't be taken as an admission of ineffectiveness, and one of the ways we know we're having an effect is precisely because the terrorists have had to change their tactics and their communications and their command and control. Yes, they're blending in more. Yes, they're dispersing,... (more)
