IN YOUR CORRESPONDENT'S CASE, THERE COULD BE LIKELY POSSIBILITIES GALORE in relation to the day's news.
One such I could think of is the State of Oklahoma; thanks to the recent tasteless and uncalled for remarks of State Representative Sally Kern, it appears as if Elohim may be showing His Displeasure upon The Sooner State with all manner of recent tornadic attacks thereon, especially so along the Turner Turnpike as connects Tulsa and Oklahoma City--the two main centres of commerce and power.
Not to mention wondering how Gusty (Oklahoma's State Cartoon) is reacting to the news, hiding in that legendary Fraidy Hole of his.
(For those among you who may be likely to complain that I may be offending Bible-Believing Christians with these remarks, I am simply playing the same game that the so-called "Westboro Baptist Church" has been playing all along with their protests @ military funerals contending that G-d is showing His Divine Judgement Upon America for Tolerating Homosexuality in form of troop deaths in the ur-RAHOWA Against Terrorism.)

MOVING TO SAID UR-RAHOWA FOR A MOMENT, BOYS AND GIRLS, maybe it's time to ask whether the real intentions of The Terrible-Tempered Mr. Bang of Indecision 2008 vis-a-vis a "100-year" American presence in Iraq amounts to nothing short of colonialism.
The White Man's Burden reborn, essentially exploiting Iraq for cheap oil and cheap labour--not to mention a cheap way to get rid of stateside "troublemakers" and "welfare basket cases," as the British were fond of using their colonial holdings for during the Victorian and Edwardian eras in particular.
Canada especially, with some being referred to Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.

WHILE ON THE MATTER OF CHEAP OIL, with the NYMEX futures price for light sweet crude briefly hitting a new record of $121/bbl. yesterday for May delivery ... you have to wonder what precludes His Fraudulency's Great Within from using the Strategic Petroleum Reserve to increase oil supplies ahead of the summer travel season and keep gas prices cheaper (especially considering estimates suggesting that gas prices could approach $3.50 to $4/gallon by summer).
Especially considering where OPEC's policy @ the moment is to keep production as low as possible and "stabilise" market prices, never mind an American presidential election and serious socioeconomic dislocation imminent.

NO WONDER OUR COMPLACENT AIR-MINDEDNESS AS A "MORALLY SUPERIOR" SOCIETY IS AS OVERZEALOUSLY HARD-WIRED as it is, and then some:
For the third day running this week, American Airlines, thanks to FAA Diktat involving safety inspection and modification of wiring systems on their jet fleet, has had to cancel wholesale numbers of its domestic flights--one in every three, by one estimate.
And has had to pacify afflicted passengers wholesale with compensation extending to accomodations, transportation via alternate channels and even meals--no doubt leaving you and me wondering, let alone American's regular passengers, how much this will cost American in the end.
And what means they will have to take to recoup the losses--as in fare surcharges over and above those already in effect to cover the increasing cost of jet fuel, airport security procedures and local departure taxes.

AND STAYING WITH AIR TRAVEL FOR THE MOMENT, European cut-price carrier Ryanair has been referred to Britain's Office of Fair Trading (OFT) by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for a pattern of misleading, deceptive and denigerating advertising as had the ASA dealing with no less than seven Ryanair ads in just the last two years, upholding complaints in all such.
Such specimens of Ryanair advertising as left the ASA with no choice but to refer to OFT were those which:
advertised fares of as low as £10 single, yet failing to disclose mandatory taxes, fees and charges over and above advertised fares;
exaggerated the availability of cheap fares;
claimed that its services between London and Brussels were faster and cheaper (hence, value for money) cf. using Eurostar high-speed rail services via Le Chunnel;
downplaying the environmental impact of air travel;
advertising "hottest back to school fares" by using a Page Three has-been in schoolgirl-stylee clothes, thus raising questions of sexualisation; and
unfairly denigrating an online ticketing service by claiming passengers using same were "being ripped off."
(In a matter not handled by the ASA, French President Nicolas Sarkozy and wife Carla Bruni won damages against Ryanair for using a photo of the pair in advertising without permission.)
Inevitably, Ryanair is upset @ the action; as the BBC put it:
The low-cost carrier said that the authority's rulings against it had been "unfair, biased and untrue".
The ASA had "demonstrated a repeated lack of independence, impartiality and fairness", Ryanair added.
And it described the latest ruling - that it had made exaggerated claims about the availability of flights at advertised prices that did not include taxes and charges - as "the last straw".
"It's one of a number of advertisements where the ASA has demonstrated unfair procedures and bias and a clear anti-Ryanair agenda," said the carrier's spokesman Peter Sherrard.
"In this case, the complainant couldn't remember and couldn't provide any evidence of the flights he was trying to book.
"Most sensible organisations or adjudicators at that stage would simply have dropped the complaint and let it lie."
Something of a lesson that the Zealots and True Believers in industry-based "self-regulation" being the last and only hope free-market capitalism has for being Great White Father to the Lower Classes especially may want to think about. Or will they?!

NOW TELL ME THIS ISN'T TAKING RELIGIOUS ZEALOTRY AND TRUE BELIEF TO A NEW AND PATHETIC LOW:
Investigators with the Texas Rangers and Texas child-welfare agencies handling the FLDS compound raid have found where a room in the temple therefor contained a bed as was used for sexual trysts set up by church elders among its followers tricked into "celestial marriages" for religio-racial purposes.
And yet the FLDS is complaining of "Religious Persecution!" all along....
Sorry, white-supremacist Zealots and True Believers....
YOUR CORRESPONDENT TOOK NOTE PREVIOUSLY OF WHERE THE COMMUNIST PARTY (OR SO J. EDGAR HOOVER HATH IT) HAD DESIGNS on establishing a separate black "homeland" in the southern United States, thereby predating similar notions held dear by racists and white supremacists in the name of "maintaining White Racial Honour and Integrity."
In evidence, I cite the following from Hoover's Masters of Deceit (New York: Holt, 1958, pp. 243-245), as part of a larger chapter discussing "Communism and Minorities" (italics from original):
In the case of the Negro minority the Comintern [Communist International] bean in 1928 to lay down a specific Party line for the guidance of comrades in the United States. According to Comintern instructions, Negroes were to be considered as an "oppressed race." The Party was told to carry on a struggle "for equal rights," but "in the South ... the main Communist slogan must be: The Right of Self-Determination of the Negroes in the Black Belt."
Communist leaders, faithfully following Moscow's instructions, promptly started a campaign of agitation. In nominating James W. Ford, a Negro, to run for Vice-President of the United States on the Communist Party ticket in 1932, with presidential candidate William Z. Foster, C.A. Hathaway, then a member of the Party's Election Campaign National Committee, reiterated instructions received in a 1930 Comintern resolution:
In the first place, our demand is that the land of the Southern white landlords ... be confiscated and turned over to the Negroes....
Secondly, we propose to break up the present artificial state boundaries ... and to establish the state unity of the territory known as the "Black Belt," where the Negroes constitute the overwhelming majority of the population.
Thirdly, in this territory, we demand that the Negroes be given the complete right of self-determination; the right to set up their own government in this territory and the right to separate, if they wish, from the United States.
Hence, "equal rights" and "self-determination" in the Black Belt became the Party's chief slogans for Negroes. By "self-determination" the Party meant what Stalin had said: "...the right of the oppressed peoples of the dependent countries and colonies to complete secession, as the right of nations to independent existance as states."
As for the "Black Belt," or as one article termed it, the "new Negro Republic," the communists have given various descriptions. In 1948 they described the Belt as extending through twelve Southern states: "Heading down from its eastern point in Virginia's tidewater section, it cuts a strip through North Carolina, embraces nearly all of South Carolina, cuts into Florida, passes through lower and central Georgia and Alabama, engulfs Mississippi and the Louisana Delta, wedges into eastern Texas and Southwest Tennessee, and has its western anchor in southern Arkansas."
By 1952 the communist concept of the Black Belt had been narrowed to "at least five Southeastern states, with port outlets at Charleston on the Atlantic and Mobile on the Gulf, encompassing the bulk of Mississippi, and a good section of South Carolina, Georgia and Alabama."
... the Party's position towards Negroes is determined not by concern for their welfare but obedience to Soviet foreign policy. As World War II approached, for example, the Party switched tactics regarding "self-determination" in the Black Belt. Instead of calling for the immediate and revolutionary overthrow of white landlords, as the Comintern had originally instructed, the Party now switched these demands to a purely theoretical and propaganda level: "...It is clear that the Negro masses are not yet ready to carry through the revolution which would make possible the right to self-determination." Why the shift? To satisfy the Party's united-front program, which demanded that the Party work harmoniously with other groups to strengthen the Soviet Union.
The World War II period found the Party cynically abandoning any alleged struggle for Negro rights. The aim was to help not Negroes but Moscow. "When we fought for the right of Negro workers to enter industries we often fought for such jobs mainly in the interest of the war effort." Earl Browder [then-President of the Communist Party USA] in 1945 admitted that as early as 1942 the Party had adopted the theory that "...the struggle for Negro rights must be postponed until after the war...." The Negro, in communist eyes, was a mere pawn, to be manipulated for the attainment of Party aims.
Sound like so-called "Confederate Southern Americans" seeking to establish "the right of self-determination" through the reestablishment of the Confederate States of America, and citing the Balfour Declaration (as established the doctrine of Jews having the "natural and historical right" to a "national home" in Palestine) as precedent?
(BTW, "Negro" was a common term for blacks until about the mid- to late 1960's, when "black" began to be considered acceptable in this respect. Such should be considered in historical context, reader, in case you get any ideas.)
Open Letter to Roger Ailes and Keith Rupert Murdoch
Mr. Roger Ailes, President Fox News Channel 1211 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10036
Mr. Keith Rupert Murdoch, Chairman News America Corporation (t/a Fox News Channel) 1211 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10036
To whom it may concern:
First, you will kindly excuse any and all unnecessary intrusion this Open Letter may be causing you in your busy schedule.
Now, may I get to business:
Questions have been raised in a number of circles as to whether Fox News Channel is under the pay and influence of the Republican Party and/or their "friends and associates" among various front groups with ties to Wall Street and "the Four Hundred" they obviously don't want known among the hoi polloi you expect Fox News to pander to: Videlicet, the poor, undereducated or homeschooled and easily-influenced elements of the community.
Who, all along, are expected to accept what Fox News presents as news and information (much of it less than credible or otherwise sugar-coated fluff, as has been widely documented) when you know, and I know--and I know, and you know, that what you're really packaging on Fox News is nothing short of prolefeed.
Prolefeed: As in false, misleading or otherwise inaccurate specimens of news and information made so by deliberate design, and deliberately, yet consciously, targeting the lower elements of society, all along expected to accept such as credible without question or reservation.
With that in mind, perhaps it was time to ask of you some questions as need asking ... questions which "right-thinking Americans" are probably asking, but you are probably (and deliberately) unaware of their being asked in the first place:
Have you received, or has Fox News Channel received, any monies from the Republican Party and/or Republican-affiliated entities and "think tanks" to advance or otherwise promote certain "talking points" @ the expense of legitimate news and information?
Have you received, or has Fox News Channel received, any monies from various pro-business and anti-tax "front groups" and their affiliated "think tanks" and associations to advance or otherwise promote certain "talking points" @ the expense of legitimate news and information?
If the answer to either or both of the preceding questions is "Yes," then:
How much has been received in payments for the aforementioned purposes, and for how long?
Are they paid directly out of the funds of the relevant organisations, from offshore-based "pure trusts" set up solely "for tax reasons," or a combination of the two?
How often are these payments received, and in what form(s) are these payments made--cash, cheques, postal orders, wire transfers, PayPal or suchlike?
Are there incentives made for special bonuses which would be payable if the "talking points" discussed results in such "calls to action" being sought all along? Have such bonuses actually been paid, and if so, when, and in what amounts?
Would such payments be made directly to Fox News Channel accounts, thence to be divided among the relevant hosts and newsreaders (perhaps as "bonuses" over and above their regular paycheques), or are they paid strictly to Fox News for use as they alone shall think proper?
Would these payments be subject to specific terms and conditions imposed by the relevant organisations; i.e., that the details be kept secret and discreet from public attention? If so, what reasons do they have for such secrecy and discretion?
Are such demands for secrecy and discretion preventing you from disclosing such connexions and associations with potentially weird and/or unwholesome elements influencing programme content on Fox News, knowing all the while that such non-disclosure is probably contrary to public interest?
What exactly is your justification for female newsreaders and hosts wearing such stylees of dress as have raised questions in these same circles about unnecessary or otherwise inapproriate overtures to sexualisation and/or sexual titillation tending to soft pornography in the Anglo-Australian Page Three stylee? (If you need some enlightenment, please refer to Fox Attacks: Decency and/or Fox News Porn for actual examples. And they are from actual Fox News Channel programming, not Tuxxedo or Spice or Playboy or other adult subscription channels!!)
Considering where Fox News is on friendly terms with cultural-conservative elements whose articles of faith speak about what they would call Kulturkrieg ("culture war"), replete with potentially coded anti-Semitic attacks on the entertainment industry for such things as "undermining traditional family values" and "corrupting morals and decency," what exactly justifies that which I have addressed in the preceding point?
Are these same elements of cultural conservatism offering Fox News what could best be called "hush money" to keep quiet about the overtures to Page Three among female newsreaders (as addressed in point 4)? How often are these payments made, if @ all, and what forms do they take? And how do we know these payments are not really attempts @ blackmail?
Are there deliberate instructions to female hosts and newsreaders requiring them to wear skimpy, provocative or otherwise sexually-titillating dress and/or engage in mannerisms and behaviours which may ordinarily be seen as titillating or sexually-suggestive on camera?
Does such a policy excuse, let alone justify, removal of the bottom-of-screen chyrons and captioning solely to attract unnecessary or unhealthy attention upon the reporter vis-a-vis audience members?
Are such policies actually justified by a desire to pander to the lowest instincts of a mostly poor, undereducated or homeschooled and easily-influenced audience, let alone a desire to be "fair and balanced" in the cable-news arena?
How do we know such policies aren't exactly in the same league as the Page Three soft-porn pinups of Keith Rupert's Anglo-Australian mass-circulation tabloids (particularly so his British national titles of The Sun and the Sunday News of the World), never mind the obvious concerns cultural conservatives would have otherwise?
How do we know that Fox News Channel is not receiving any sort of assistance from the Church of Scientology when it comes to perfecting the techniques of disinformation packaged as "news and information" on Fox News, in particular the meme that liberals and progressives should be considered "fair game" for attack as to their loyalty, patriotism (or want thereof) and "disregard for Traditional American Values," among other patsies oft used in Fox News programming?
Are you now, or have you ever been:
an alcoholic?
a narcotic or hallucinogenic drug addict?
a chronic and habitual spendthrift or gambler?
an undischarged bankrupt?
a wife-beater and/or child-abuser?
diagnosed with a mental illness, defect or disease?
a regular patron of prostitutes or adult-oriented businesses in general?
a confirmed nymphomaniac or sex pervert?
a latent homosexual?
a card-carrying member of a known subversive or otherwise conspiratorial organisation whose articles of faith are or may be contrary to the peace, safety or good order of the community?
subject to police or FBI observation or watch?
having associations or connexions with the Dregs of Society or others considered weird and unwholesome?
declared mentally incompetent, insane or otherwise a "troublemaker"?
Have you no sense of Decency, Sir, @ long last?
Have you left no sense of Decency, let alone Morals and/or Common Sense?
The American People--the "right-thinking" American People, come to think of it--deserve answers to the preceding questions. And they would like them based solely on facts, not on carefully-scripted bromides and platitudes designed solely to protect yourselves from attracting suspicions in certain influential circles.
MEMO TO READERS: As per usual with these Open Letters, you are strongly encouraged to share this with your friends and others in positions of influence, confidence and trust--preferably through the "e-mail this" facility. But use it responsibly; I don't want this blog to become unfairly associated with "spamming" by certain bad apples.
An ugly shade of "Christian Persecution! Christian Persecution!"
AS MENTIONED OVER RECENT DAYS IN TAKING NOTE OF THE RECENT RAID OF THE FLDS COMPOUND NEAR ELDORADO, TEXAS, with its ensuing removal of over 400 women and young girls thus resident and referral to child-welfare agencies, certain specimens of the Religiopolitical Right are probably spreading their rather lame-sounding and reechy meme of "Christian Persecution! Christian Persecution!" as their take on developments.
But it turns out that this new episode of perceived "Christian Persecution!" (as the Elmer Gantry Institute of Religiopolitical Studies would likely handle this) carries a darker side, as the Southern Poverty Law Centre notes in their Hatewatch blog:
Three days after the raid of a polygamist compound in Eldorado, Texas, the media is still atwitter about the arrest and search warrants served at the YFZ (Yearning For Zion) ranch, which was occupied by 400 followers of Warren Jeffs, the incarcerated "prophet" of the Fundamentalist Church of the Latter Day Saints.
But so far none of the dozens of stories and broadcast segments about Texas authorities taking 219 children and women from the YFZ compound into protective custody have even mentioned the fact that along with advocating child brides and plural marriage, FLDS doctrine is venomous with anti-black racism.
As described in a major feature on the FLDS published in the Spring 2005 issue of the Intelligence Report, Jeffs preaches to his estimated 10,000 followers that all blacks are the descendants of Cain, "cursed with a black skin," and selected by God to be the "servants of servants." It was on the basis of that unvarnished racism, preached as official FLDS doctrine, that the Southern Poverty Law Center began listing FLDS as a hate group in 2005.
Jeffs describes as a victory for the devil the day in 1978 that leaders of the legitimate Church of Latter Day Saints—known to much of the world as the Mormon Church—decided to allow blacks to become priests. FLDS had first split from the main church in 1890 after Mormon officials renounced polygamy under pressure from the government.
"The black race is the people through which the devil has always been able to bring evil unto the earth," Jeffs preached in one recorded sermon obtained by Hatewatch.
"And why did [the Negro race] pass through the flood?" the FLDS prophet asked. "Because it was necessary that the devil should have a representation upon the earth as well as God."
To download an MP3 file of Jeffs sermonizing on "Negroes" and the biblical story of the flood, click here.
To read more of his comments on blacks, as well as on homosexuality, violence, the role of women and the end of the world, click here.
Now what does the "Christian Persecution!" element have to say with these new developments?
AS YOUR CORRESPONDENT WRITES THESE OBSERVATIONS ON THE STATE OF THE WORLD AND HIMSELF HERE IN THE MINNWISSIPPI, it appears as if a "calm before the storm" sort of scenario is setting up.
Meaning some hazy sun could be likely over the afterlunch, followed by some rather intense rain and wind from tonight heading into the weekend--in short, a rough run up into the weekend.
As in weather getting worse before things get better. (Already, the Chippewa River @ Durand, Wisconsin, some 40 mile from Winona, is seeing some flooding; advice hath it that the Black and Kickapoo River basins in Wisconsin could see serious flooding within measurable distance thanks to the imminence of rain.)
*************
SOMETHING WHICH THE "CHRISTIAN PERSECUTION!" CROWD OUGHT TO THINK ABOUT when it comes to invoking the charge against the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the wake of their Texas compound being raided and some 425 girls and women removed therefrom, all now in State custody:
An indictment announced against the FLDS hath it that young girls were forced into marriage once they reached the menarche (as in the onset of puberty) and expected to wear pioneer-stylee homespun over long step-in underwear @ all times--even in the hot summer months.
Not to mention boys being essentially preened into "doing their duty" of unprotected procreation as their duty to G-d and--so the Southern Poverty Law Centre hath it--the White Master Race.
And yet these same pathetic Dregs of Society are screaming "Christian Persecution! Christian Persecution!" @ this latest suspected example....
Queer world, this.

FIRST, IT WAS THE AIRBUS A380 AS WAS EXPERIENCING SERIOUS DELAYS OF DELIVERY to airlines who ordered same, forcing Airbus Industrie to pay compensation.
Now, it's Boeing's turn to deal with such a scenario--this time, with their (presumably) "fuel-efficent" 787 Dreamliner experiencing prolonged delivery delays.
Come to think of it, the timing of the news couldn't have been more interesting, considering where:
American Airlines has announced wholesale flight cancellations due to FAA-mandated safety inspections on their MD-80 fleet, forcing them to:
advise intending passengers to consider other options;
refer affected passengers to other flights; and
provide compensation for food and lodging in the interim; and
Hong Kong-based discount carrier Oasis Air suddenly shutting down operations, stranding many thousands of passengers.
*************
ANOTHER REASON WHY JOHN McCAIN DESERVES SERIOUS SWIFT-BOATING DURING INDECISION 2008:
And is this the sort of behaviour to be expected of someone seeking to be not so much President of the United States as a superdivine "Prophet, Seer and Revelator"--the same one who has acknolwedged to being a "war criminal" calling for, in effect, an American Colonial Presence in Iraq for 100 years and more (yet claims that such remarks were really "misquoted" when challenged)?
And how would Machiavelli on steroids and amphetamines react to this news of his newest client using the Seven Dirty Words (and variants thereof) from time to time?

NEWS THAT THE KULTURKRIEG CROWD WILL CERTAINLY LOVE TO HEAR, by way of the BBC:
The Simpsons has been dropped from morning TV in Venezuela after being deemed unsuitable for children - and has been replaced by Baywatch.
The popular US cartoon about the yellow dysfunctional family was branded "inappropriate" and pulled by the country's television authorities.
Caracas TV station Televen has started showing episodes of the beachside show in the same mid-morning slot.
It became famous for its bikini-clad stars, including Pamela Anderson.
Glamorous locations
The country's TV regulator said the saga of Homer Simpson, wife Marge and their three children flouted regulations that prohibit "messages that go against the whole education of boys, girls and adolescents".
It said that some unspecified complaints had been received from viewers.
Televen's manager may decide to show The Simpsons, which has been dubbed into Spanish, at another time of day.
The station is showing episodes of Baywatch Hawaii, a later incarnation of the lifeguard rescue show which started in 1989.
The serial, about a group of beach lifeguards, gained notoriety for its attractive male and female cast members coupled with glamorous locations and slow-motion running sequences.
Venezuelan TV is known for filling its schedules with re-runs of old US series and Latin American soap operas.
But it also includes a talk show hosted by the country's president, Hugo Chavez.
In an episode of the weekly programme last year, the Venezuelan leader gave a speech which reportedly lasted eight hours.
An abridged version of the show has been broadcast every day since February 2007.
So: What class of shows would our Kulturkrieg crowd want American children watching instead, considering their objections to PBS as being "elitist" and "promoting liberal tendencies"?
Suggested modern correction to "Flowers on the Wall" by The Statler Brothers
THE COUNTRY-WESTERN VOCAL GROUP KNOWN AS THE STATLER BROTHERS BROKE ONTO THE TOP 40 CHARTS in 1959-60 with their sentimentalist ballad "Flowers on the Wall," about a man with mental illness trying to escape his unfortunate lot by drifting into fantasy @ times, as witness the chorus thereof:
Countin' flowers on the wall, that don't bother me at all, Playin' solitare till dawn with a deck of fifty-one, Smokin' cigarettes and watchin' Captain Kangaroo; Now don't tell me I've nothin' to do....
In any case, the third line thereof does sound a bit anachronistic to the 21st-century ear, what with smoking now seen as unhealthy and dangerous and Captain Kangaroo having been off the air for some 25 years now.
Your Correspondent, for his part, suggests as a modern replacement line "Eatin' Doritos and watchin' 'toons all afternoon," which would fit rather nicely with the rhyme structure and reflects the fact of several cable/satellite networks offering nothing but cartoon programming (as in Nickelodeon/Nicktoons, Cartoon Network/Boomerang and Toon Disney).
And my suggesting that "eatin' Doritos" would be a better replacement for the original "smokin' cigarettes" just came to me as I prepared this essay--even if "junk food" is obviously seen in certain circles as unhealthy, yet not as worse as cigarettes are acknowledged as being.
